Connecting your Bluesky account to Ocoya

Generate a Bluesky App Password and connect your account to Ocoya

Written by Joe

Bluesky uses App Passwords for third-party integrations rather than your main account password. Before connecting to Ocoya, you'll generate an App Password inside Bluesky and paste it into Ocoya.

Before you start

  • If you manage more than one Bluesky account, make sure you're logged in to the correct one before generating an App Password.

  • Ocoya supports both standard Bluesky handles and custom domain handles.

  • Never use your main Bluesky password — only an App Password will work.

Connecting a Bluesky account

1. In Ocoya, go to ConnectionsChannels, then click Browse all.

2. Find the Bluesky card and click Connect. The dialog asks for two things: your handle and an App Password.

3. Click Generate app password in Bluesky. This opens Bluesky's App Passwords settings, where you click Add App Password.

4. Give the password a name you'll recognise later, such as Ocoya, then click Next. Leave Allow access to your direct messages switched off unless you specifically need it — Ocoya doesn't require DM access to publish posts.

5. Copy the generated App Password. Bluesky only shows it once, so copy it before closing the dialog.

6. Back in Ocoya, enter your Bluesky handle, paste the App Password into the Bluesky App Password field, and click Connect Bluesky.

Your Bluesky account will now appear under Channels and can be selected in the post composer.

⚠️ If you've recently changed your Bluesky handle, update it in Bluesky first, then reconnect the account in Ocoya.

Refreshing a Bluesky connection

If your Bluesky account becomes disconnected, reconnect it with a valid App Password:

  1. Go to ConnectionsChannels and click Manage next to the Bluesky channel.

  2. Click Disconnect.

  3. Generate a fresh App Password in Bluesky and connect the account again.

Troubleshooting Bluesky connection issues

Invalid App Password

Check that:

  • The App Password was copied in full, with no extra spaces.

  • You used an App Password rather than your main account password.

  • The password hasn't been revoked in Bluesky's settings.

Profile not found

Verify that:

  • Your handle is entered correctly.

  • The account exists and is active.

  • You've used the correct custom domain, if your handle uses one.

Account keeps disconnecting

Revoking an App Password in Bluesky immediately breaks the connection. Generate a new one and reconnect.
