Connecting your Threads account to Ocoya

Authorise your Threads profile so you can schedule Threads posts from Ocoya

Written by Joe

Connecting Threads lets you plan and schedule Threads posts alongside the rest of your channels in Ocoya.

Before you start

  • You need an active Threads profile. Threads profiles are created through Instagram, so if you haven't set one up yet, do that first in the Threads app or on threads.com.

  • Log in to the Threads account you want to connect first. The consent screen connects whichever profile is currently signed in, and it names that profile on the confirmation button — check it before continuing.

  • If you manage several Threads profiles, connect them one at a time.

Connecting a Threads account

1. In Ocoya, go to ConnectionsChannels, then click Browse all to open the list of available platforms.

2. Find the Threads card and click Connect. Threads has no extra dialog inside Ocoya — you're taken straight to Threads.

3. Threads shows what Ocoya is requesting:

  • Access and display your Threads information and posts (required)

  • Create and share posts on Threads profile (optional — needed for publishing)

  • Manage replies and quotes on Threads posts (optional)

You can use Edit access to turn the optional permissions off, but leave post creation enabled or Ocoya won't be able to publish.

Check the profile name on the blue button before clicking it — it reads "Continue as …" and tells you exactly which profile is about to be connected.

4. Click Continue as ….

5. Ocoya then shows a Select profiles screen listing every profile available on that provider account. Tick the profile — or use Select all — and click Connect. The counter next to Select all shows how many you've chosen, for example "0 / 1".

If a profile you expected isn't listed, the Profiles missing? note on that screen links to guidance on resetting provider access.

6. Your Threads profile now appears under Channels, ready to select in the post composer.

Things worth knowing

  • Threads authorisation is tied to the Instagram account that owns the Threads profile. If you're signed in to the wrong Instagram account, you'll connect the wrong profile.

  • If you have fediverse sharing enabled on Threads, posts published through the API are also shared to the fediverse.

  • Private Threads profiles can be connected, but posts published to a private profile are only visible to approved followers.

  • Access tokens expire periodically. If publishing starts failing after working fine, reconnect the account.

Reconnecting a Threads account

  1. Go to ConnectionsChannels and click Manage next to the Threads channel.

  2. Click Disconnect.

  3. Connect the account again using the steps above.

Troubleshooting Threads connection issues

The wrong profile was connected

The consent screen names the profile on the "Continue as …" button. If it isn't the one you want, cancel, sign out of Threads and Instagram in your browser, sign back in as the correct account, and start again.

The profile you want isn't on the Select profiles screen

Ocoya can only list profiles the authorised provider account has access to. Check you signed in as the right account at the Threads step, then use the Profiles missing? link on that screen to reset access and try again.

No Threads profile found

Confirm that a Threads profile actually exists for the Instagram account you're using. Creating an Instagram account alone doesn't create a Threads profile — you need to complete Threads sign-up as well.

Authorisation window closed without connecting

Pop-up blockers can interrupt the authorisation step. Allow pop-ups for Ocoya and try again.

Publishing fails after connecting

If the optional Create and share posts permission was switched off via Edit access, Ocoya can read the profile but can't publish. Disconnect, reconnect, and leave that permission enabled.
