Connecting Discord lets Ocoya publish and schedule content straight into a channel on your Discord server. Unlike most social platforms, a Discord connection points at a specific channel within a specific server rather than at a personal profile, and it works by creating an incoming webhook in that channel.
Before you start
You need the Manage Server permission on the Discord server you want to connect. Discord only lists servers where you hold it.
Your Discord account must have a verified email address. Discord blocks apps from being added to a server by unverified accounts — see the troubleshooting section below.
Decide in advance which channel posts should go to — you'll choose it during authorisation.
Be logged in to the correct Discord account in your browser before you start.
Connecting a Discord channel
1. In Ocoya, go to Connections → Channels, then click Browse all to open the list of available platforms.
2. Find the Discord card and click Connect. You're taken straight to Discord — there's no extra dialog inside Ocoya.
3. Discord shows which account you're signed in as and what Ocoya is requesting — to add a bot to a server, to know what servers you're in, and to create commands. Pick your server from the Add to server dropdown.
4. Scroll down inside the dialog. Under Add a webhook to, choose the channel Ocoya should publish into, then click Continue.
5. Discord asks you to confirm the permissions being granted on that server — View Channels. Click Authorise.
6. You'll be returned to Ocoya, and the Discord channel will appear under Channels.
Things worth knowing
Each connection posts to one channel. To publish into several channels, repeat the steps and authorise each channel separately.
Posts arrive via a webhook, so they appear from an Ocoya integration rather than from your personal Discord user. Discord states plainly that the app cannot read your messages or send messages as you.
Deleting the webhook in Discord's Server Settings → Integrations will break the connection in Ocoya.
Reconnecting a Discord channel
Go to Connections → Channels and click Manage next to the Discord channel.
Click Disconnect.
Connect again using the steps above, choosing the same server and channel.
Troubleshooting Discord connection issues
"You need to verify your email address in order to add this bot to a server"
Discord refuses to add any app to a server from an account with an unverified email. The warning appears in red under Add a bot to a server and under the server dropdown, and Authorise will not complete.
To fix it, open Discord, use the Resend Email button in the banner at the top of the app, click the verification link in your inbox, then start the connection again.
"No items to show" in the server dropdown
Discord only lists servers where your account holds the Manage Server permission — if you hold none, the dropdown is empty and the connection can't be completed.
To fix it, either ask the server owner to grant your account Manage Server, or ask someone who already has it to complete the connection instead. If you don't have a suitable server, you can create one in Discord — click + in the server list, choose Create My Own, and name it. You'll automatically hold Manage Server on a server you create.
The Continue button says "You missed some fields"
Both selectors must be filled in. Scroll down inside the dialog and make sure a channel is chosen under Add a webhook to, not just a server.
Posts stopped appearing
The webhook was probably removed or the channel deleted. Check Server Settings → Integrations in Discord, then disconnect and reconnect the channel in Ocoya.
